Trace the rich history of watercolor painting in this fully illustrated lecture led by Mr. Jean Stern, Director Emeritus of The Irvine Museum. From ancient cave paintings and medieval manuscripts to Renaissance innovations and modern techniques, learn about the evolution of water-based media including watercolor, gouache, and tempera. The lecture concludes with a special focus on the California Watercolor Style, from its roots in the 1920s to contemporary works today.
