NORMA KERSHAW AUDITORIUM | LECTURE
Presented by Dr. Tianlong Jiao, Bowers Museum Chief Curator.
The discovery of the Pacific Islands by Indigenous people has been a fascinating subject for scholars and the public over the past two centuries. One of the results of this enduring interest is that a significant number of objects from the Pacific Islands are collected, studied, and exhibited by museums all over the world, including Bowers Museum. With the advances of academic research and the approaches of museum interpretation, the understanding of Pacific culture and art has significantly changed.
This lecture presents the most recent academic investigations of the origins of the Indigenous Pacific people, particularly the Austronesians, exploring alternative interpretations and presentations of the Pacific collections at museums.
Tickets: Free; museum entry not included
