California Impressionism with Jean Stern

PURCHASE ONSITE TICKETS

SATURDAY | JULY 20
1:30 – 2:30 PM | NORMA KERSHAW AUDITORIUM | LECTURE

Between the early 1890s and up until the onset of the Great Depression, California was home to a large number of Impressionist artists who, like the French Impressionists, painted “en plein air,” a French term meaning directly outdoors. These men and women painted the natural beauty of California embracing the land, beaches, mountains and desert. But most of all, they painted California’s distinctive and vibrant natural light.

Bowers Museum holds one of the most impressive collections of what has come to be known as California Impressionism. Mr. Jean Stern, a recognized authority on the subject, will present a brief and concise illustrated narrative that discusses the leading painters of the style.

Ticketed Onsite Event: Members $15 | General $20

Recorded Online Screening: Members $5 | General $10 | Online version will be emailed to ticketholders one week after the onsite event.
