Indigenous Music and Instruments of South America with Ethnomusicologist Jim Berenholtz

Ethnomusicologist Jim Berenholtz presents a lecture and performs samples from the diverse and fascinating world of music among the native cultures of South America. Drawing on his collection from both the Andes and the Amazon, Jim will perform on instruments that he has gathered directly over nearly four decades of travel in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Brazil. He will demonstrate a wide variety of flutes, panpipes, ocarinas, trumpets, rattles, drums, and other percussion instruments that are unique to the southern continent. Traditional songs in both indigenous languages and Spanish will also be performed.
